Welcome to Stockton-Middlesbrough Initiative
The Stockton Middlesbrough Initiative (SMI) is a small organisation set up by the Councils of Stockton on Tees and Middlesbrough to promote the creation of a genuine ‘urban core’, or main urban centre for the Tees Valley community.
The SMI covers:
- A range of ways the two Councils are working together on joint initiatives for example Visitor Guides, certain events etc.
- Supporting key initiatives in both town centres and on the two Tees Valley Regeneration (the local urban regeneration company) sites at North Shore in Stockton and Middlehaven in Middlesbrough.
- Developing the corridor along the River Tees between the two areas.
