BILLINGHAM BECK
This area contains deposits of ash from the former incinerator (see site 6) but has been contoured and landscaped as an informal recreational area with viewing platforms over Billingham Beck itself.
A surfaced footpath winds its way through trees before linking up with the former mineral railway line that can be followed to Portrack Marsh.
It is a location for an important colony of seals.
The site also affords new views of the famous Newport Bridge - built in 1934 the bridge allowed the central span to be lifted to enable ships upstream towards Stockton.
